About Osondu Books and Tea

In September 2004 Osondu Booksellers opened at 184 N. Main Street in Waynesville, North Carolina.  Margaret and Scott Osondu held a dream of opening a book shop sometime in their future together. In May of 2004 on a trip to western North Carolina Margaret and a dear friend went into Waynesville.

“This is it.” Margaret said, “ this is where Scott would love to live.” Noting that an independent bookshop already existed there on Main Street, Margaret and her friend went inside and spoke with the owner. Providence deemed the timing appropriate because the owner and his two partners were interested in selling the book shop. September 1, the shop became Osondu Booksellers.

Osondu Books and Tea is a community bookshop where events are held weekly. Authors from the region and out of the region come regularly to read from their books, do signings or participate in panel discussions. Osondu does outreach to the community by sponsoring community events such as community conversations with community leaders. Another regular event is Appalachian Anthology, an event that is shaped by the regional authors, musicians, story tellers, and speakers.  Western North Carolina is full of rich history and the culture is celebrated through different venues, arts, crafts, music etc. Osondu’s celebrates monthly these events. Word games, poetry readings, and writing classes are also held at Osondu Books and Tea.

Of course book clubs are a big part of the shop. Osondu hosts 4 book clubs in the shop. An all women’s book club, an all gender all genre book club, a nonfiction book club and a kids book club. In addition many of the community’s book clubs are supported by Osondu Books and Tea.

Osondu’s web-site makes it easy for customers to search and order books from their own homes or office. Books or tea can be ordered and picked up at the shop or delivered to their home.  Osondu Books and Tea is in business to serve their reading public. Please come in and visit, browse, and sample a tea or two.
